The Plastic Waste Reduction Program from Verra is a crediting mechanism that enables the robust assessment of the impact of plastic waste collection and recycling projects. It is designed to drive investment into initiatives that verifiably reduce plastic in the environment. Control Union is an approved Validation and Verification Body (VVB), providing the independent assessment required for projects to achieve certification and generate credible Plastic Credits.

    What is Plastic Waste Reduction Programme?

    This global program makes projects for collecting and recycling plastic waste financially feasible by allowing them to issue tradable credits. Certification under the Plastic Waste Reduction Standard supports organisations in mitigating their plastic footprint, building a sustainable brand, and demonstrating a tangible commitment to a circular economy. As a VVB, Control Union provides essential validation of project design and periodic assessments of waste reduction volumes, ensuring the integrity and quality of the issued credits.

    Determining scope for verifying

    Together, we discuss the details and scope of your application. Which processes, products and/or locations would you like to have certified?

    Quotation & contract

    After establishing exact scopes and auditing times, you’ll receive our quote. After agreement, you may start the prepatation phase.

    Audit planning, preparation, execution and repporting.

    You will be assigned one of our qualified and independent auditors. We’ll reach out to you to check if you’re ready for the initial audit. If needed, we’ll provide additional information to help to prepare. Good to go? The initial audit is planned, carried out and reported.

    Review

    During the audit, we will assess if you meet the requirements. After that, we will confirm if you’ve fully complied, if there are things to improve, or if there are any non-conformities. Together, we will discuss our findings, plan of action and planning in case of non-conformities. In case your chosen program includes a logo, we will discuss this too.

    Results of verifying

    The end result of a verifying process is a declaration that shows your organization is complying wit the chosen standard. We will discuss how to continue from there. Usually the verifying process is repeted yearly, but it might be more often depending on the needs and size of the organization.
