Control Union – Certification

RFS2 – Renewable Fuel Standard 2

The Renewable Fuel Standard 2 (RFS2) is a program of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) aimed at increasing the use of renewable fuels in transportation. It is designed for producers and suppliers aiming to access the U.S. market. Control Union provides certification services to demonstrate compliance with the RFS2 standard, facilitating market entry for organisations that meet the requirements.

Control Union – Certification

    What is RFS2?

As a mandatory national policy, the RFS2 renewable fuel standard program requires a certain volume of renewable fuel to replace or reduce petroleum-based transportation fuel, heating oil, or jet fuel. The standard expands on previous regulations to include both petrol (gasoline) and diesel, and it classifies renewable fuels into four distinct categories. Certification is essential for organisations to meet the strict requirements of customers within the U.S. supply chain and demonstrate adherence to national environmental regulations.

    Determining scope of certification

Together, we discuss the details and scope of your application. Which processes, products and/or locations would you like to have verified and/or certified?

    Quotation & contract

After establishing exact scopes and auditing times, you’ll receive our quote. After agreement, you may start the preparation phase.

Audit planning, preparation, execution and repporting.

You will be assigned one of our qualified and independent auditors. We’ll reach out to you to check if you’re ready for the initial audit. If needed, we’ll provide additional information to help to prepare. Good to go? The initial audit is planned, carried out and reported.

    Review

During the audit, we will assess if you meet the requirements. After that, we will confirm if you’ve fully complied, if there are things to improve, or if there are any non-conformities. Together, we will discuss our findings, plan of action and planning in case of non-conformities. In case your chosen program includes a logo, we will discuss this too.

Results of verification and/or receiving your certificate

For certification: Once all non-conformities have been resolved and everything has been assessed positively, we will award the certificate. Depending on the type of certification: you are allowed to trade using the certificate you are executing the process according to the guidelines you are allowed to name the certificate on your website In some cases, the certificate entitles you to use the logo. We will clearly inform you and provide you with guidelines if this is the case. For verification: You will receive a report with our findings. This allows you to demonstrate that you comply with the regulations. The process does not end there. Periodic (usually annual) audits ensure consistent quality.
