ETS2

Independent verification of EU ETS2 emissions reporting

    ETS2

The EU Emissions Trading System 2 (EU ETS2) introduces monitoring, reporting and verification obligations for suppliers of fuels used in buildings, road transport and additional sectors. Regulated fuel suppliers are required to monitor and report the emissions associated with fuels released for consumption.

Control Union provides independent ETS2 verification services to assess emissions reports against applicable EU regulatory requirements.

    About ETS2 verification

Independent verification is an essential part of the ETS2 reporting framework. It provides an impartial assessment of reported emissions, monitoring methodologies and supporting evidence to determine whether the information meets applicable regulatory requirements.

Control Union conducts ETS2 verification through qualified verifiers, applying established assessment procedures. The process results in a verification report containing an evidence-based conclusion and any relevant findings.

How verification and validation work at Control Union

    Initial review and scope

We review your verification or validation needs, the applicable requirements and the intended scope of the assessment. This establishes what will be assessed and against which criteria.

    Proposal and planning

Based on the agreed scope, we provide a proposal setting out the applicable requirements, assessment boundaries, responsibilities, timeline and approach.

    Documentation and data requirements

Before the assessment begins, we confirm the documentation, data, methodologies and supporting evidence required. This ensures that expectations and information requirements are clear from the outset.

    Independent assessment

Our experts independently assess the submitted information against the applicable requirements. Depending on the scope, this may include document and data review, interviews and site visits. Any questions or findings identified during the assessment are communicated for clarification or resolution where required.

    Independent review

Where applicable, the assessment findings and report undergo an independent technical review to confirm consistency, impartiality and conformity with the relevant requirements.

    Verification or validation outcome

Once the assessment and review are complete, we issue the applicable verification statement, validation outcome or report in accordance with the relevant framework.
